Your allotment's website

Allotmin can give your association a public website at its own address — something like greenfields.allotmin.co.uk. The hosting, the address and the padlock in the address bar are all part of it; there is nothing to buy and nothing to renew.

Turning it on

Settings → Links → tick the website option, and choose the address you want. That address has to be unique across every association using Allotmin, so pick it before somebody else does.

A Website tab then appears in the menu.

What goes on it

• a main photo and a carousel of others
• some words about your association
• notices — news, AGM dates, working party dates
• documents from your library, if you want them public
• contact details
• a map, from the address you give
• a button sending people to your waiting list form

Notices look after themselves

Give a notice a date to appear and a date to stop, and it does both on its own. There is no publish button to remember and nothing to go back and take down after the AGM.

Photos

Upload them at whatever size they came off your phone. Allotmin shrinks them, twice — once in your browser before they are sent, and again afterwards — so a page full of photos still loads quickly on a phone at the gate.

Draft and published

Until you publish, the page is a draft. A draft is a proper 404 to the public, but you can see it while signed in, so you can get it right before anybody else sees it.

Being found

The technical side of search is done for you: a proper title and description that you write, a real address with a certificate, structured data telling search engines you are a genuine organisation at a genuine address, and a place in Allotmin's sitemap the day you publish. Every notice you post keeps the page fresh, which search engines like.

If you would rather not be found at all, there is a switch that keeps you out of search entirely.

Using a domain you already own

If your association already has a domain, you can point it at your Allotmin page so that anybody typing the old address ends up in the right place.
