Deleting a site

How to remove an allotment site from your account, including one you added by mistake — and why a site with records in it is protected.

If you added a site by mistake, you can remove it yourself.

How to do it

Open the account menu at the top right and choose Site overview — or go to Your Sites. Under the card for the site you want rid of, there is a small Remove this site link. That takes you to a page that tells you whether it can go, and removes it if so.

Only an owner of the account can do this. Committee members and viewers do not see the link.

It only works on a site with nothing in it

A site can be removed while it is empty — which is exactly the state an accidentally-created one is in. As soon as it holds anything, Allotmin refuses and tells you what is in it: members, plots, waiting list entries, member groups, billing years, invoices, charges, concessions, correspondence, inspections, deposits, documents, or anything you have put on its website.

The restriction is deliberate. Deleting a site with records in it cannot be undone. So if you genuinely want a real site and everything in it gone, ask us — we will take a copy of your records first, then do it for you.

You can also empty it yourself and come back to the page.

Two other reasons it might say no

  • Somebody's login is limited to that site. Removing it would quietly give them access to all your other sites instead, which is the opposite of what was intended. Change their access on the People tab first — see giving your committee their own logins.
  • There is an unaccepted invitation to that site. Withdraw it, or wait for it to lapse.

You cannot remove your last site

Every account keeps at least one. If you want to close your account altogether, that is a different thing — take a copy of your data and then get in touch, and we will close it for you.

What it does to your bill

If you pay for more than one site, your next annual invoice goes down to match. Anything already invoiced is not changed — so if an invoice has already gone out counting the extra site, tell us and we will sort it out.

If you are working in the site when you remove it

You are put back into one of your other sites automatically, and the site switcher disappears again if you are back down to one.

What is not affected

Your email templates, sender profiles, member groups and account settings belong to the account, not to any one site, so they survive. A template you had pinned to the removed site becomes available across the sites you still have, rather than being deleted with it.

Did this not answer it? Ask us — we answer these ourselves.
